Wills
A Will is a legal document outlining your plans for your Estate after you die.
The Will is the most important document in your Estate Plan. Having said this, it is crucial that your
Will be updated/reviewed every 2-3 years. The following “life events” should trigger you to
review your Will:
- Marriage
- Divorce
- Death of a family member, beneficiaries, executors
- Birth of children/grandchildren
It is important to note that a marriage will invalidate any Wills made prior to the marriage.
Reasons to make a Will
- To set out how you wish your estate to be handled
- To provide for your beneficiaries
- To provide for a particular distribution of specific assets
- To appoint a guardian for minor children
- To appoint a person you feel is best suited to be your representative
- To eliminate family disputes and court costs to determine who should administer your estate
